Hotspot Use

The Melrose Park Public Library offers mobile hotspots for checkout to eligible Melrose Park Public Library cardholders to help meet educational and internet access needs. Hotspots are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to availability.

Eligibility

  • Hotspots may be checked out by Melrose Park Public Library cardholders who:
  • Are 18 years of age or older; and
  • Have a library account in good standing.

Loan Period and Renewals

  • The checkout period is 3 weeks.
  • Hotspots are eligible for up to two automatic renewals, beginning 2 days before the due date, provided there are no holds on the device.

Return Requirements

  • Hotspots must be returned in person at the Circulation Desk.
  • Do not place hotspots in the book drop.
  • Hotspots that are not returned by the due date will be remotely disabled until they are returned.

Late Return Policy

To ensure fair access to hotspots for all patrons, the following restrictions apply to borrowers

who return a hotspot after its due date:

  • First late return: The borrower must wait 1 week after returning the hotspot before placing another hold on a hotspot.
  • Second late return: The borrower must wait 1 month after returning the hotspot before placing another hold on a hotspot.
  • Third late return: The borrower must wait 3 months after returning the hotspot before placing another hold on a hotspot.
  • Fourth late return: The borrower will lose all hotspot borrowing privileges.

Late return occurrences are cumulative indefinitely and do not expire or reset. Each late return counts toward the borrower's lifetime hotspot lending record.

Responsibility for Equipment

Borrowers are responsible for the hotspot and all accompanying equipment during the loan period. If any item is lost, stolen, damaged, or not returned, the borrower is responsible for the applicable replacement or repair charges.

Hotspot Kit Contents and Replacement Fees

Each hotspot kit includes the following items, all of which must be returned in good condition:

Item Replacement/Repair Fee

T-Mobile Hotspot $100

USB Charger $15

Hotspot Carrying Case $15
