iPad Lending Policy

The Melrose Park Public Library makes Apple IPads available for checkout to Melrose Park Public Library Card holders in good standing in order to meet educational needs. IPads are made available for in-library use to all Public Library card holders (or those with a valid ID). IPads are provided according to availability.
iPad Checkout
The Melrose Park Public Library provides Apple iPads for checkout to eligible library cardholders to support educational, informational, and recreational needs. iPads are also available for in-library use by eligible patrons, subject to availability.
iPad Checkout
The following rules and regulations apply to iPad checkout:
- iPads may be checked out by Melrose Park Public Library (MPPL) cardholders who are 18 years of age or older and whose library accounts are in good standing. Temporary cardholders are not eligible to borrow iPads.
- The loan period is three (3) weeks.
- iPads are eligible for up to two automatic renewals, beginning two days before the due date, provided there are no holds on the device.
- iPads must be returned in person at the Circulation Desk. Do not return iPads in the book drop.
- iPads not returned by the due date may be remotely disabled until they are returned.
- Borrowers are responsible for the full replacement cost of $360 if an iPad is lost, stolen, damaged beyond normal wear, or not returned.
- The power adapter, charging cable, and carrying case must be returned in good condition. Replacement or repair charges may be assessed for missing or damaged accessories.
Late Return Policy
To ensure fair access to iPads for all patrons, borrowers who return an iPad after its due date
will be subject to the following restrictions:
- First late return: The borrower must wait one (1) week after returning the iPad before placing another hold or checking out another iPad.
- Second late return: The borrower must wait one (1) month after returning the iPad before placing another hold or checking out another iPad.
- Third late return: The borrower must wait three (3) months after returning the iPad before placing another hold or checking out another iPad.
- Fourth late return: The borrower will permanently lose iPad borrowing privileges.
Late return occurrences are cumulative and do not expire or reset. Each late return counts toward the borrower's lifetime iPad borrowing record.
Responsibility for Equipment
Borrowers are responsible for the hotspot and all accompanying equipment during the loan period. If any item is lost, stolen, damaged, or not returned, the borrower is responsible for the applicable replacement or repair charges.
iPad Packet Contents and Replacement Fees
Each iPad Packet includes the following items, all of which must be returned in good condition:

If the entire iPad Packet is lost or not returned, the borrower will be charged a $360 replacement fee.
iPad In-Library Use
- iPads may be biPads can be checked out for in-Library use by valid MPPPL cardholders 18 and older.
- Non MPPL cardholders or patrons with a valid ID ages 18 and older, can check out an iPad for In-Library use. Non MPPL cardholders are required to leave a photo ID at the Circulation Desk until the iPad is returned.
- In-Library users assume full responsibility for the replacement cost ($300) in the event that the iPad is lost, stolen, damaged, or never returned.
