Youth Services Policy

The MPPL Youth Services Department is dedicated to serving children, their caregivers, teachers, and students who need children’s materials. Other patrons should use the Adult Services collection and facilities, including the public restroom.
Youth Services Area Guidelines
- Caregivers/Guardians may not leave children aged 8 and under unattended in the library as outlined in the MPPL’s Child Safety and Left Unattended Children Policy.
- Staff will not act in loco parentis.
- Parents/Guardians accept full responsibility for the material selection and use of the internet by their children.
- For the safety of children, staff will not give out any information about children’s whereabouts or relay messages to/from telephone callers.
- Children with disruptive behavior will be asked to leave the Library building and property.
Staff will:
- Provide assistance with the use of MPPL resources.
- Provide information in response to a patron’s question.
- Provide assistance with locating library materials inside and outside the MPPL collection.
- Provide reading, listening, and viewing suggestions to patrons.
- Provide limited computer assistance and instruction.
- Provide age-appropriate programming.
